If you have access to Grandt's Narrow Gauge Pictorial Vol. 3, there is a good photo of the #3297 on page 122 with the original door hardware. The Camel hardware came later and not all the #3000's received the modification.
By the way an inspection of the D&RG/D&RGW Account 53 ledger (freight cars) at the CRRM shows the individual car histories for about 95% of the narrow gauge freight cars. The title page for the #3000-series cars show that at least some were in service as early as October 1903 The Ledger, (CRRM SB 709-144)list the changes each car went through by individual car number and the AFE responsible for the change. (ie #3090 rebuilt under AFE 1689) Ordinary maintenance such as wheel changes, air brake repairs,repainting, etc. are not shown however.
