Some maps show the Ames tank at M.P. 41.8. On page 243 RGS Story Volume X has a photo showing a short spur called the station at Ames. I don't believe it a had an actual building. Look at the Ames sign that followed D&RG practices, sidings without stations. Siding is located west side of the main. It's captioned at M.P. 41.3. On the same page is a map of the area with a hand written notation "Ames Slide" about 1/2 way between mile posts 42 and 41.Believe this is the No. 1 spur on your map. No.2 is probably the temporary spur put down when clearing the Ames slide.Tank was locaqted a short distance south of the siding. Hiked the grade several times in the late sixties and early seventies, picked up some tank bands and a piece of horizontal wood tank staves. A road went up over the roadbed about where the siding was. Area is now a @#!!* hiking trail from Bilk to Butterfly.
