RGS - 2 spurs near Ames Tank

August 12, 2010 10:11PM
I've been going over maps this evening trying to decide if I want to make an RGS run in a week or so (if I make it up there). I was checking the grade near the Ames Tank and saw something that I hadn't noticed before. The location marked with a red 2 is a fairly long spur and close to the tank which makes sense. Then I noticed another spur, at the red 1, that is shorter and closer to bridge 43A. I wonder what purpose this spur served and did it last up until the end of the line? RGS III indicates that the spur and bridges at my location 2 were destroyed by the Ames mudslide.
