With Thanksgiving just a few days away, here is a look at Thanksgiving (actually the day before Thanksgiving) in 1967. On Wednesday, November 22, 493 was working hard to bring seven lumber loads and a caboose from Chama to Cumbres. While 493 was making the Cumbres turn, the Skyline mill in Chama was loading five more flat cars with lumber for the afternoon run to Cumbres and Alamosa.
Here the engine is rounding the S-curve approaching the old second crossing. Today the highway runs well above the train and offers a favorite viewpoint of the S-curve
493 is whistling for the crossing, more out of routine than necessity, as the road is devoid of traffic ( except for my parked VW Beetle)
The blue 1964 VW Beetle is ready to follow 493 further up the hill
