SR; We're going to have to call in some of our
Cicil Engineer friends on this. Nor sure about that nomenclature. But, if it means it is a 20 degree curve the radius would be 286.5'. Since
1 degree curve has a 5730' radius, 5730 divided
by 20 gives 286.5'.That's a pretty tight curve.
The US Geological Survey Aerial map shows the
curve having a diameter right at 6 times the length of the snow shed over the Cumbres Y tail
track. Somebody posted a list of snow shed lengths awhile back but I can't find it and I
didn't make a hard copy. Anyone know that dimension?
Incidentally, some of the old timers told us that the they would drop off the caboose right there where the upper and lower tracks are so close and
climb up and wait for the train (Westbound) to come around to them so that they could start at the head end setting up retainers and be back to the caboose when they finished.
