OK, I realize that there's a bit of knee-jerk to my reaction here, but doggone it, it's jerkin' too hard for me not to comment, so...
Well, basically, what CJ said. A good visitor's center has been sorely needed for quite some time. Mark Bassett at the Nevada Northern talks a lot about how people come to Ely and ask, "where's the museum?". Like it or not, the explanation that it's all around you is a tough one. A good visitor's center can help alleviate some of the confusion AND serve to help at least some people realize that the real "museum" is, in fact "out there".
That said: the NORTH YARD? The living, beating heart of the historic RR? It'd help, I guess, if I had a better feel for
exactly where this thing's proposed for, but like others who've commented, I having a very hard time imagining anyplace appropriate in the North yard.
Yes, I understand there's a lot of review yet to be done, and a lot of people who get to say "no", but this sure makes me nervous.
Again, apologies in advance for the knee-jerk, but... I love the idea of a good visitor's center, and if it all turns out that the location's just fine, I'll humbly apologize even more to those who've been working hard on this much-needed addition.
