On the day before Thanksgiving, on Wednesday, November 23 1966, 493 was taking water at Cumbres on the second turn from Chama. In a few minutes the train would pull up to the pass, helper 488 would run around the train, 493 would add the cars from the morning's Cumbres turn, and take the train into the snow storm to Alamosa.
I realize that I posted this photo once before, a few years ago, but it seemed appropriate for this Thanksgiving Day, as at the moment it is snowing outside, however not nearly as heavily as on that late afternoon 54 years ago.
