My wife and I visited Wales in 2007. It was very easy to figure out the buses to get from Bangor to Caernarfon and back, and Caernarfon Castle is definately worth a few hours.

While there we were told that the Talyllyn Railway should not be missed, so we rearranged our schedule to visit Tywyn and ride the train. It was absolutely fantastic! The Talyllyn station is a short walk from the main Britrail station. (More info at [www.talyllyn.co.uk])


If you're interested in esoteric oddities, we took the train west onto Anglesey to visit llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, a village that is far smaller than its name.
