When I worked for White Pass, we had a combine and a lowboy flatcar run away from Glacier station and wreck .... that was a case of crew leaving the cars with air brakes set but not securing them otherwise. When the air bled off, away they went. I think it was early summer 1977.
Some years back in Boise we had some passenger cars get away from the local and rolled through town (and a number of crossings) until a cop boarded and set hand brakes. That
was on the
UP.
