The passenger train from Denver was about 12 hours late yesterday on account of a freight wreck just this side of La Veta. A freight train going down the hill turned over 6 or 7 cars and it is always a difficult job to pick them up.
Business on the fourth division has been very brisk this week as a result of the opening up of the road between here and Durango. There was lots of freight to be moved both ways. [That was following the worst flood which washed out most of the track Pagosa Jct to Arboles and much of the Silverton Branch October 11th]

A wrecking call started the natives in Alamosa Tuesday morning just about the time you are won’t to enjoy that last little snooze, Conductor Morgan’s freight train got tired following the curves on the “chili” line and rolled over in the ditch. Fortunately no one was hurt.
Engine 281 turned over on the Cumbres grade Monday and rolled down the embankment. The engineer and fireman stepped off on the upper side and let her go Gallagher!
