Adam,
483 operated on the new C&TS in 1970 and was the only engine in operating condition when the states bought the line. It was still in movie paint scheme from 1968 filming and ran all the runs like that from Antonito to Chama hauling over all the equipment left in Antonito by the Rio Grande. The last year it ran was 1976 I believe. I was lucky enough to film it that year as well as two different times in 1971. I also saw it running in June 1968 from Chama to Cumbres and onward toward Alamosa. It was in need of a complete overhaul and was set aside in favor of other locomotives being restored. The other mechanical types on this board can tell you what was wrong with it better than I when it was sidelined in 1976. I know today it has been stripped of many parts for the other engines over the years.
