A full scale train extravaganza will unfold starting on Friday, August 27, 2010 and continue through the weekend of August 28th and 29th. Legislative specials will be scheduled in the morning with a Chama to Cumbres turn departing at 11:00am after 30 minutes of speeches and presentations. The same will occur in Antonito with the exception of train departure. Legislative personnel will depart by bus arriving at Los Pinos to pick up an Antonito Special bound for Cumbres. All Gubernatorial staff and personnel will meet at Cumbres for speeches and a BBQ lunch. A unified legislative train will then embark back to Chama at 2:15pm arriving in Chama about 3:30pm. (*Note: newly painted 483 will run light from Chama to Los Pinos departing Chama at approximately 9:30am to pick up passengers and cars in the siding at Los Pinos.) ***(Note: Trains are for legislative personnel only. Max: 140)
At 2:15pm the Galloping Goose will depart Chama with passengers bound for Cumbres followed closely thereafter by the 483 Freight Special also with paid passengers. Both the Goose and freight will arrive at Lobato and take the siding. Passengers will be given a wonderful photo opportunity viewing the parade of westbound legislative Chama Special, followed by the regular Chama passenger train and finally the Jim McKeel Motor Car brigade of over 20 motor cars on display. Goose and 483 freight will continue on to Cumbres with photo runbys enroute stopping at the Pass for a nice BBQ dinner, photo night shoot with professional photographer Michael Ripley, music and entertainment. Arrive back in Chama by 10:15pm and 10:30pm respectively. Cost for the Goose: $35 per person. (Max: 29) Cost for the 483 Freight Special: $50.00 per person. (Max: 90) Both long Cabooses 0306 and 05635 seats will be available on a first come first save basis. (First 20 seats).
On Saturday, August 28th, 2010 the 483 Working Freight Special will depart at 8:00am bound for Antonito. This working freight will be unique to railfans since all switching of cars in and out of sidings will allow photo ops for railfans instead of the standard runbys of the past number of years. On the return trip, Sunday, August 29th, the 483 Working Freight will return westbound and pick up cars placed in sidings the day before. Departure again 8:00am. All passengers will be given bus transportation both ways and includes lunch. Cost of the 483 Working Freight 2 Day Special: $350 per person. One day trips will be sold for $190.00 per person. (Max: 90 passengers)**Note package pricing at bottom.
The Galloping Goose will depart on Saturday, August 28th from Chama as well at 9:00am arriving in Antonito by 5:00pm. (Max: 29 passengers) Cost: $85.00 per person with lunch included.
**C&TS 40th Celebration Package deals will be sold for the entire weekend. Friday afternoon trips from Chama to Cumbres with either Goose or 483 Freight including evening activities along with weekend 483 Working Freight Special will be sold at a price of $365.00 per person.
