Heard today that the road to Alpine tunnel is open, The drift just before the Palisades has been cut through. Solar snow removal should do the rest. Even if the road is blocked at that point, it's an easy hike into the station/engine house/display. Easy hike for anyone but Russo and me.
There's a foot trail from the west portal over the top that ends up at the east portal. Try it, the east side is completely different from the west side. Or, drive up past St. Elmo to Hancock and hike into the east end.
