When the locomotive was obtained by the Huckleberry, Dennis Daugherty was then employed by the Huckleberry and came out to oversee the loading, etc. On his way there, he stopped by Orange Empire as he knew several of the people there through his earlier involvement with Illinois Railway Museum.
Dennis recently retired from the California State Railroad Museum where he was in charge of the back shop. Also the same Dennis Daugherty that oversaw the rebuilding of the Chinese QJ's prior to import into the U.S.
One time when I was back at the Huckleberry, Marty Knox told me about the day that the 1203 threw the rod through the block. It was the same day that earlier in the day the 464 had thrown a drive rod. Two different kinds of rods on the same day!! [editing: see the next post by Marty Knox to correct this ancient mind of mine.]
