All the info I've read says that while NG is very clean, it has at best only 75% of the BTU's of #2. It's the fuel of choice in the transit industry now for bus fleets. The draw back is that it requires a larger displacement engine to push that vehicle around. While those old smoke belching two stroke GM 6V71's that were the mainstay for several decades can push a loaded 40' coach up a grade, it takes a four stroke V-8 now to do the same job burning NG (interesting to note that GM dropped completely out of that business, one that they once had a near monopoly on).
That's not taking into account the issues of storage (both in the vehicle and vessels for refueling).
