In my opinion, this is one of those "let's prove it can be done weather or not it is economically reasonable" items.

It was not economical to take men to the moon, but we went anyway.

It does not make economical sense to relay the third rail since there is no traffic from a narrow gauge only feeder.

Never-the-less, I find it interesting and fascinating.
