Not to be contradictory, but White Pass has successfully relied on only #73 for a couple of decades.
Steam costs money. I've heard many places and many people worry about the near future of tourism and tourist railroads. So, dumping a boatload of money in 69 may not be a priority at the moment for WP&Y. If they needed steam, they would have kept #40 until #69 was ready to roll.
I helped John Bush unload #69 on 31 October. Pictures are being processed. If I only knew how to post these pictures - I will once when I get them back. Any pointers on how to post pictures?
#69 arrived on 4 trucks. One truck carried the drivers and larger misc. parts. One truck carried the tender. One truck carried the locomotive. One truck carried a shipping container with all the smaller parts. It's condition is about as far apart as you can get a locomotive. The tender is completely intact. It's a very very large narrow gauge 2-8-0.
John's great for quotes. He taught college before becomming infected with the need to work with trains.
