Well thats good atleast he still wants to work for the railroad! 
I think pretty much any kind of Manager/Supervisor position at any job aint much fun. Everyone under you does all the real work and get to have all the fun and insted of having a department supervisor or manager above you to listen or complan to should you feel the need you got all these big wigs with no idea whats really going on calling shots by throwing darts at the idea board on the wall blindfolded if they happened to show up that day and arnt out on a 3 hour lunch
Thats just my personal opinion, I hate working supervisor jobs! I like to work!
