#473 was needed for the next season's Silverton Train, which is undoubtedly why she was repainted (in addition to whatever other work was done in October & November.) The D&RGW did not plan to run #483 again, and so just put her away. At least they apparently drained the water, etc., from #483 so she wasn't frozen to death during the winters of 1968-69 and 1969-70.

p.s. I'll have to agree with you about the green jacket this time - it would have looked pretty awful with the Tuscan cab. On the other hand, it would be a REALLY colorful Christmas Train engine ...
