Get the pineapple to Antonito, plus the parlour cars. Put some heat in the cars. With their flexible seating, adding a heat source will be made a lot easier. Then send the pineapple out on weekends towards the gorge. As necessary attach a Jordan Spreader or whatever to keep the ROW clear. Take to Osier permitting, or to Toltec siding. Run the diesel to the other end of the train, couple and drag it back to Antonito. Use bus service to bring the passengers in from the ski area around Taos. Get about 60 passengers. Charge $100 a head. There's $6000 bucks, $12,000 for the weekend. Pay a train crew a per diem amount. Example 6 crew at $150/day or $900/day, $1800/weekend. Bus transportation - figure two buses max, $400/day/bus/trip or $1600 weekend. The expenses would be $2500. Have the ski people handle all reservations at the hotels, etc. They may even have a better price on the buses. Cut them in for some $, say $20 per ticket. Thats $1200 per day or $2400 for the weekend. Max revenue: $12,000/weekend. Expenses $5800, not all fixed. You can figure the breakeven point.
Run this for a number of weekends and you'll cover repair work on the pineapple, plus a tidy sum for whatever. Big addition: your putting extra money into the hands of local people. That per diem pay is a nice tidy amount. After a few weekends work you've got some serious spending money. Also, the exposure is good. The passengers may come back in the summer to ride the entire route under steam.
