Who knows exactly what the outcome would have been. Probably Ward's idea of what the car was painted as. The Emma is painted as Ward thought the engine should look like -- more 1870s than the 1881 original. Ward was more the artist.
Later on Ward wanted to fund replacing the headliner with a painted design much like what you see inside the cars at Sacramento. Our examination of the existing headliner shows that it is installed over the bulkhead that was installed in 1900. And there is no painted design on it. The car still has its 100+ year old headliner and not some made up design.
By the way Coach #5 has a tin roof.
