C&S 21, built 1882 as DSP&P #29. later DSP&P, DL&G #156 Rebuilt/reboilered 1891 Scrapped 8/23
One of the large group of "Cold Water" Brooks 2-6-0's purchased by UP for it's Colorado Narrow gauge lines (DSP&P[29-38], CC[8-13]) in 1880-1882.
Notorious as bad steamers (also called "Ice Cream Freezers") several different rebuilds were attempted (smaller cylinders, etc) but only the new boilers (and larger fireboxes)applied to DL&G 156 & 162(rblt in '94, scrapped 3/27) seem to have truly helped. At least these were the only engines of this class (B-3-
still on the C&S roster by 1902 (1899 #'s 2,3, 14-22) the rest having been sold or scrapped. Some had been on the dead line since the early 90's and may never have been repainted for C&S.
