IMHO, the very late thirties and/or very early forties, when there were still some 2-8-0s in
yard service, K-27s on the Silverton branch (and subsidiary RGS), and a mix of both the
old style DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN (with logo) and the new flying
Rio Grande
heralds on the engine tenders. Also, all of the K-28s were still on the railroad and both the
Shavano and San Juan were running - and with upgraded equipment. The Narrow Gauge
wasn't exactly prosperous in those days, but it was busy and still in pretty good shape.
... and, IIRC, 35mm cameras and color film were becoming available!
