I spent last weekend in Torpedo, PA hiking the grade of the 3 foot sand mine railroad that ran from Torpedo, PA to the quarry about 2 miles up the hill. Got to talk to a lot of locals and gather information for an article I'm writing. While there I decided to replicate this 1912 photo of the newly completed sand plant at Torpedo:
You can see Climax #1 at the top of the hill with its train of gondolas loaded with sandstone. Today all that is left are concrete foundations and railroad grades...
