Hi Jim, In fact this particular canyon bottom has a great deal of old wire rope cable remnants here and there suggesting to me that the surrounding hill sides were logged by skidding the logs down to the grade via a donkey(s). I assume the many bits of discarded cable are cable sections that parted due to logs hanging up on stumps and other trees. It must have been quite dangerous to be anywhere near one of these parting cables. The canyon has been logged in more recent times since the rr show, but the fact that the chain was sodded over makes me think the time line was more in line with the 1920's. Loading of logs based on photos was done both with a slide back loader and a McGiffert with the flats passing underneath.


The second photo probably taken in the mid to late 20's does have a slight NG connection. W.A.Roundy who appears in various photos of the SVRy shop crew in the 1900's to 19teens was the the Master Mechanic for this logging company from about 1923 on till the company folded in 1928-29. He was allowed by the receivers to care take the EOLbr. machine shop and make his living out of it till the mid 30's when the depression eased and the facilities could be sold.
