What Is The Best Artifact You Found Along A ROW?

It seems a lot of us have been exploring right of ways....some of us for many years. ROW Explorer recently posted the "oil cup" find. Who else has found neat stuff along a ROW?

Over the years I have found some great items including the remains of an RGS lantern, a set of trucks, LOTS of spikes and all that....but the best find I know of was a headlight!

In 1973, while working in Central City, my girlfriend Jeannie (also worked for the railroad) Mike Squibb, Dave Ropchan and I, walked the switchback grade from Central to Black Hawk. Dave noticed a piece of metal down the hill. He walked to it and found it was a HEADLIGHT from a Colorado Central train wreck sometime before 1900! I think there is a picture of the wreck in the "Narrow Gauge to Central and Silver Plume" book. The headlight was a little smashed, but was still very much a kerosene headlight. We retrieved it and it stayed on display in the Central City depot....I suppose until it closed in 1981. Hopefully Dave still has it.
