When I was up there in July, it was my understanding that they run the 1st trip or first 2 trips of the day with steam, and then the rest of the day with Diesel. I was lucky enough to ride diesel up and STEAM down. They plan on keeping at least 2 operational and save them for special occasions. The day I was there, they had two steam engines hot, #9 and #2. #2 was backup. I think putting #3 up for sale on Ebay is ridiculous and a bad decision by the railroad. At least they could use it as a parts engine...
