As a hotel for railroaders went, The Foster was OK as I recall....
It had some quirks though....
One was the ten watt light bulb hanging from the ceiling in the 2nd floor head...Ever try washing coal dust off your face with deep shadows from poor light???? When you got down to the more brightly lit Saloon and Restaurant for supper, it was obvious, usually, that you missed some of that coal dust around your eyes...
Another deal was the old-time flypaper tacked up and hanging all over the ceiling in the restaurant. Some of the dead flies didn't stay stuck too well.....
One hogger decided to use the window early one morning instead of going down the hall...The flashing on the joint between the porch roof on the west side of the place over some open windows in the kitchen (where some freshly baked pies had been placed to cool) wasn't as tight as it should have been with somewhat disastrous and embarassing results on the part of the culprit....
