Wade,
I'm sorry to rain on your parade. I am a narrow gauge railroader. I have seen the carnage on the evening...NONSTOP...news. All That I can say is that I am glad to have been at work today, away from the pressures of 21st century life(i.e. TV, Radio, Internet...etc.). I cannot even begin to explain the feelings that myself, along with millions of Americans are feeling today. This morning, on my way to work I heard on the radio about the WTC in New York(The first plane). I was upset but figured that it was "another" airline crash. Being that the railroad does not maintain a continuous link with network TV, I was starved for information all day long. Imagine that! A narrow gauge railroad that could not get the network news enroute...! The rumors that floated around Silverton at luchtime were rampant. "the WTC collapsed", "The White House is Gone!", "The Pentagon is destroyed"....ETC.
Being out on the railroad insulated me from the experiences I should have had today as an AMERICAN!
I am a railfan, but first, I AM A PATRIOT! I have a deep undying love for this country that you do not seem to understand. Otherwise, you would not be posting a message that we should talk about railroads today. Your feelings today should be unquechable anger masked by the frustration that the criminals may not be brought to justice soon.
You want to dream about Durango? Well here's a little dream for you....
Imagine 25,000 rednecks with their deer rifles at the ready, waiting for Osama Bin Laden to walk through the front door!
Or...
Imagine every Colorado Narrow gauge railroader in history having a party on the 100th floor of the WTC in NYC at 7:30AM.
I am sorry, but today, railroads can sit by the wayside!! There is plenty of time in the future for foaming!
Come on down to Durango, I'll buy you a beer and we'll talk about railroads...Later.
My $0.37
Rob
