To clarify Joe, the strao did not break. As you can see from the photos the bolts broke, at the look of it I would say that the "head" end of the bolt broke off...this would happen if the strap was hammering around...either way, one end of the bolts were sheared off while the other end held on. The main rod then pulled the strap apart on a return stroke bending/cracking the strap apart.
