While running at 10mph at light throttle, CML #3 lost the bottom end of the left main rod, putting the left piston through the head and tearing things up in general....
Left cylinder. The nut is on the end of the piston rod. The threaded part is the piston. Note the break line around it.
Strap end of the mainrod. This strap is fitted to the end of the rod and held on with 2 tapered bolts. The rod/crank shaft brasses live inside the strap. It appears one bolt came off, the other came loose and all hell broke loose.

As there is only 2 weeks left in the season down in Globe and it will take considerable time to cast up a new head, remove the piston and rod, check for bent and broken stuff, etc. #3 will be out of service for an indefinite period. Sometime in June #3 will be transported to Alamosa for repairs.
