I met Bernd in China in 2005 and he told me and the rest of my small group that we would be welcome if we wished to photograph the train that he had chartered on the JiTong railway. He even provided us with the timings. I feel that Bernd is a very honorable and friendly man.

Perhaps some of his participants felt that having paid $2,000, they did not wish for others to get the same photos for free. That is too bad and I hope that Bernd is able to prevent that from happening in the future.

Having seen John's wonderful photos on his web site, I very much hope that I will be able to join John on Bernd's next Harz tour. I've visited the Harz 8 or 10 times, beginning in February of 1991, and John's photos really capture what it was like for the first few years after reunification.
