In an interview I recorded in the cab of 483 in Antonito with the late Ben Greathouse in 1970, Ben recalled that 483 was a good engine, very reliable. 484 was the stoutest of the class and could pull more. When asked about deseasels, he replied, "Them diesel's the sh*ts!"

That interview, in its entirety, can be heard on "The Rattle and the Roar", Vol. VI, which was recently re-released in CD form.
