I imagine the air operated firedoors were applied while the T-12's were in service.

Firing an engine with a manual chain door like that probably was hard
on the fireboxes....you'd have to yank the door open, put in a fire, several scoops, and then kick it shut afterwards.

I've seen somewhere a photo of a Colorado Midland (or Midland terminal)
engine cab while going west of Colorado Springs with the fireman
working a chain door...wide open while he shoveled. Don't recall where now though.
