#3 needed very little running gear work as that was done several years back with little mileage run. The boiler is in good shape and needed a survey and a new set of flues. We had to change some staybolts (see ealier threads). We still need to replace the steam dome lid as the original is too thin. The firebox sidesheets have some erosion which have caused us to cut back the boiler pressure from 200 lbs. to 185 lbs. although it seems that the engine spent most of it's life at 180 lbs.
We also have been working 10 hour days, 7 days a week since late January.....
I'm REALLY glad it's about over.
The whistle is a home made boiler tube creation that Butler found somewhere. It sounds different from any other 6 chime whistles I have found.
Look for new paint this weekend.....
