Jeeze, what a stir 489 and her Dollywood paint job has brought about. Yeah I'm excited to see another K36 emerge to pull trains up the 4% and cruise the mountains to Antonito, very excited. I am concerned that to highlight the loco with silver paint at the whim of who, by the direction of who, is getting worse as the years go on. I realize that it was a rush job at the end, yet the silver pinstriping had to take precious time-what rush. If management said just go out and paint it now, use your imagination and git er done, then this is what we see. And the tire falls off a few days later. What I see here is a classic case of non-management. But why blame it on mis-management when there are no directives how to paint them, other than 'just git er done'. This mess has got to start from the top with a real leader. Or else the Interpretative Bldg. won't have anything to interpret other than how the historic value got tossed out in favor of putting butts in the seats.
