According to the map on p. 128 in "Marshall Pass" by Bender, Poncha Junction is at MP 220, and Gunnison is at MP 288, a total of 68 miles. Salida is about 4 miles east of Poncha Jct, however I can't find a MP for it. Of that, westbound (Poncha Jct. to Marshall, MP 240) is about 20 miles 4% up, then about 15 miles down the 4% to Sargent (MP. 255.5), the rest of the way is the Gunnison Valley, flat, easy, fast. Given the engines on the C&TS make a 64 mile run easily, seems like Gunnison to Salida (or vise versa) would be no problem. Except in winter <img class=
