I was reading about this on the RGS yahoo group. It seems the RGS approached Baldwin(or ALCO) about building a 2-8-8-2 locomotive. And they had a link to this drawing dated Aug 26 1930. Although this says ALCO on it. If you look at the top right hand corner it says rio grande southern next to the order number. It also has some specs on the right side that are mostly the same as k-28s, but the cylinder, drivers, axle loads, and spacing match the rebuilt k-27s. look at the proposed tractive effort 54,000lbs. Sounds like two k-27s put together basicly. 40" drivers and overall length of 71'-1".
I have two questions about this loco. Would this have been an outside frame loco like the Ks? And does anyone els have any info about this loco?
