It's almost the middle of October and very close to the end of the season for the Georgetown Loop. What's the status of C&S #9? Is it still at Uhrich and if so, will it stay there all winter to be re-assembled or will it go back up to the Loop?
I'm curious about all of the fixtures that were cut off of #9 when it was up in South Dakota. Are these being re-manufactured and by whom? I'm assuming that the restoration will aim for the 30's to 40's era. Can anyone in the know be a bit more specific?
Just out of curiosity (and not to flame anyone) what all was found out when #9 was disassembled? Was the frame bent or cracked? I already have heard about the boiler but what about the running gear? How about the firebox? Is a visual documentary being made of this engine's restoration (ala "Rebirth of a Locomotive #482")? It would seem to be a no-brainer considering the "historical" ramifications of this restoration! Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.
