I can verify most of what you have said, Jerry. Quite a few years ago I drove a 1950s era GMC pickup into Floresta from near the top of Kebler/Ohio Pass. At that time it was a bit scary as the road into Floresta had a definite lean downhill - crossways that is. But the last time I remembering, there was a locked gate across the road
One thing that was pointed out to me are the scars on the trunks of the magnificent aspen trees, caused by the double trees on the sleds they used to haul supplies into Floresta in the winter. Some of them must be 30-40 feet in the air. I'll be interested, Jerry, to read what you have been able to unearth about the Floresta branch. Which undoubtedly made for some interesting railroading.
As an aside, I remember reading that the Floresta mine was high quality anthracite and located on a steeply pitching vein - luckily in favor of the loaded downhill cars coming out of the mine.
Interesting area.
