My initial Super Coolscan was defective, and in the process of trying to figure out if it was a software problem I used ViewScan for the first time. (Turned out it was a hardware problem that was fixed by replacing the unit).
After trying ViewScan with my old Polaroid, it worked so well I might well have not replaced the clunker so quickly.
And then I found ViewScan works great with my HP multifunction flatbed that I use for scanning 8x10 prints.
The Polaroid software was okay, the Nikon software awful, and the HP software even worse.....but VueScan is better and easier to use than any of them. The only shortcoming is ViewScan's ICE is not quite as advanced as Nikon's proprietary ICE, although Hamrick may have fixed that by now.
I undestand Nikon's latest ICE will in fact work with Kodachrome, although I don't know how well. I prefer the added control provided by a good manual cleaning before scanning with anything I missed cleaned up with the clone tool.
