Canada set a goal recently to reduce their carbon emissions. Coincidentally a beetle or similar bug has set upon the forests in BC (similar to what is happening in Colorado) and is killing the trees. As the trees die, they become carbon emitters instead of carbon absorbers. As it happens, the number of trees projected to die will equal the amount of carbon Canada set out to reduce netting a zero for all the effort.

I heard this on the BBC, so it must be true.

It left me thinking that the earth is basically a carbon factory seeking equilibrium.
