We started the season in May of 1990 with 4 K-36s in service. After we traded for the 497 we had 5 steamers in service most of the time until I left in 96.
Once the 463 was completed we had one or another down for one reason or another, but maintained 5 in service and in rotation.
I was very pleased that Jack managed to get all 6 hot at the same time but have chastized him for not getting a picture of all of them together. John Craft and John West both took nice photos the day we lined up 5 hot engines beside the engine house in Chama.
Jack is absolutely right that with 6 engines in the mix (one getting heavy repair and 5 serviceable) life gets easier. You can control the problems instead of having the problems control you.
