...if the C&TS doesn't want to rebuild the firebox for the 487 I'm sure the D&S would jump at the chance to get another K-36 for their stable. If these rumors are true--maybe it'll be down for a year or two but it is something that can be fixed. To say it will never steam again is crap. 
This may in fact spur the C&TS to get the 483 back into service or even better maybe get both the 497 and 492 back into service--now that would be something a K-37 double header up Cumbres!
