Rio Grande and a number of other narrow gauges, such as Nevada-California-Oregon and Pacific Coast, here in the West used standard gauge size couplers.

The SP narrow gauge, the Eureka-Nevada, Nevada Central, Nevada County Narrow Gauge, and the White Pass & Yukon Route use a 3/4 size coupler.
