A fellow I know told me that he worked on the last log hauler in Oregon: The O.C.&E. in Southern Ore. This was with diesel around 1968 or 69 I think. Apparently from the above it was not the last, but nearly so. Actually the Idaho Northern and Pacific back in the mid 1990's when they were operating the Joseph Branch (LaGrande Ore. to Joseph Ore.) did haul some logs from the Wallowa River Canyon. The logs were skidded by Cat trackside and a flat car mounted loader which I think was simply a self loader from a logging truck was used to load onto the adjacent flat car. Traffic volume was so low on the line that this small time operation was feasable. I presume the loads were hauled out to either Boise Cascade at Elgin or LaGrande.
