Seems everybody's definition of "spectacular" is confined to scenery of the vertical sort. How about someplace with a large variety of equipment, with several railroads coming together, and an entertaining variety of operations??? A spot, say, where one could stand on the depot platform and watch a double-headed passenger train arrive or depart, complete with RPO, chair cars and Pullman sleepers of either the 'ordinary' sort or the Buffet-Sleepers; where one could see a tiny little 4-4-0 with a string of open excursion cars heading for the beach??? Or see a Dawson & Baily engine heading out with a couple of freight cars and a coach for one of the canyon branches??? Or perhaps wander down to the freight yard (a block or two away) and watch freight trains coming and going, and see cars lettered for perhaps as many as a dozen railroad names; oh, yes, and let's not forget the pleasure of watching a genuine Ramsay Car Transfer apparatus at work every now and then; where the potential variety of locomotives would include 0-6-0, 2-6-0, 4-4-0, 4-6-0, and 2-8-0 varieties - and possibly a 2-6-6T on the odd occasion!
Where, You ask, was this Narrow Gauge Nirvana??? I think I'll let some guesses appear before revealing all! (Remenber, this is "all-time" per the initial post.)
