The Line from Victor & Cripple Creek you are thinking of was the old Colorado Springs & Cripple Creek RR. (CS&CC) The road is now called the Gold Camp Road and it is an easy, interesting drive. The problem is that the best part of the line (the first 15 miles out of Colorado Springs) can only be traveled by foot or mountain bike. This is due to a collapsed tunnel.
I have heard that the county was working on re-opening the tunnel so we may be able to drive the whole CS&CC short line in the near future. Also, the CS&CC was not narrow gauge. It was the ungodly width of 4’8 1/2”. Of the three different railways that ran to Cripple Creek & Victor only the good old F&CC was 3’ .
By the way. Last year, when I tried driving from Victor to Florence, I found the road closed. Does anyone know if the road has been re-opened since then????
Thanks,
Tim
