A few years ago I was on this forum begging for pictures of D&RGW’s pile driver OB. Some of the readers may remember my asking and then wondering what happened. I collected over 1,500 pictures from many folks out there, some here in the Denver area and some out of state, along with photos from all the folks who worked on OB.
If you have read Bob Grandt’s Narrow Gauge Pictorial book VII you will know that OB’s original cost was $398.96. The Sand Casting Molds cost the Friends $8,000, and each of the six gear segments cost $250. I came up with the idea of putting together a DVD so anyone who was interested could see what was involved in the rebuild plus give the Friends the opportunity to gain a little money to offset the cost of OB and maybe help the next project along.
If you have looked at the Friends web site the DVD is now available. Please remember this was done by two rank amateurs, not by some professionals. All of the pictures are available to anyone doing research as long as proper credit is given, the only exception is the Bob Richardson Collection from the Denver Public Library.
