Ed,

I was born in 1958. I remember visiting Colorado Springs in the mid 60's (I was 10+) and staying in a small motel (Beverly Hills Court) on El Paso Blvd. I remember riding the Mt. Manitou Incline, visiting Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, and the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo. I also remember playing in Fountain Creek. My memories are somewhat limited, but my parents told me at that time the USAFA was way north of town at that time.

Am I right to assume that you essentially lived out in the country at that time?
